Learn the basics of backcountry travel! We will teach you how to set a proper skin track, execute a stellar kick turn, and find the soft pow. The instructor will provide feedback on backcountry skiing/snowboarding technique and give advice for future trip planning.
There will be a basic overview of avalanches and how to avoid them, but we do recommend taking a full AIARE Level 1 course to continue your mountain education.
Skiers and splitboarders are welcome. Participants are expected to provide their own ski/snowboard gear, including a helmet. BHMG can provide recommendations of local outfitters for rentals. Participants will be required to have a beacon, probe, and shovel, which BHMG can provide if needed.
