The American Mountain Guides Association Single Pitch Instructor (SPI) Program teaches climbing instructors to proficiently facilitate and instruct the sport of rock climbing in a single pitch setting. The SPI is the only internationally recognized single pitch climbing instructor certification program in the United States and fits within the American Mountain Guides Association rock guiding program.
The SPI Course is a 27-hour training course that normally runs as three consecutive nine-hour days. It is intended for active climbers interested in teaching novices to climb in a single-pitch setting. Course candidates must be at least 18 years of age, have traditional lead climbing experience, and be able to top rope 5.8.
